THIRUBUVANAM SILK SAREES
Thirubuvanam wedding silk sarees are famous in South India. Thirubuvanam silk sarees are made of pure silk and gold plated silver jari thread with medium weight. Flature silk is used in Thirubuvanam Silk sarees for both warp and wept. This results in quality, shining, uniformity and luster. The “fan folding” of Thirubuvanam silk sarees is very famous and it has got its own advantages.
Tradition, medium weight and intricate motifs are the special features of Thirubuvanam Silk sarees. The body and border are woven in the same single warp. When looked closer one can see wedding jeweler too, the neli, or too toe ring, the vanki – jewelley for the arm, muthu or pearls……..those too are woven with zari into the borders. The luster of these silk sarees reflects as Queen of sarees.
BORDERS
Another speciality is that the sarees are with solid coloured borders or contrast borders with a series of delicately woven motifs in zari. The three bells denoting the chalangai or anklet could well be followed by the chequered pattern of the peacock’s eye, the arm jewel – the vanki, bunches of grapes, creepers and mangoes. All in one saree! And the touch of surprise – ‘meena’ work – or coloured thread in between the jari.
COLOURS
Revel in the plains – the endless brightness of parrot green, the depth of coffee brown, the shimmer of golden yellow. Or be surprised by the double colours – the blue-green mayilkazhuthu (peacock’s neck) the red-orange of a lion, the violet green of a new-born mango leaf.

The Thirubuvanam Silk Handloom Weavers’ Co-operative Production and Sale Society Ltd.Z-322, is the biggest co-operative society in Tamilnadu, producing traditional silk sarees with elaborate designs using pure zari. The society is situated in the silk weavers cluster of Thirubuvanam about 9 km away from Kumbakonam, Thanjavur District. Thirubuvanam is an ancient temple town famous for silk weaving from the period of Great rulers of Chola.
This society was registered in 1955 and started its commercial operation on 24.11.1955. Before establishing the society, the weavers of this area were working under the control of master weavers and were getting lower income. At present, the society has 1825 weaver members and nearly 50% of them are female members. The society is providing employment to 2000 families.
The society having the trade name of ‘Thicosilks’ is producing sarees from the price range of Rs.6000 to Rs.150000. At present, the society is producing sarees with modern design and latest colour combinations. The society is functioning in its own building with 25 sales outlets in Tamilnadu. Thicosilks became Number One in pure silk and real zari saree production and sales among co-operative societies in India. The sale turn over of Thicosilks for a year is around 50 crores.

India’s No. 1 திகோசில்க்ஸ் என்று பெருமையுடன் இன்று அறியப்படும் திருபுவனம் பட்டுக் கைத்தறி நெசவாளர்கள் கூட்டுறவு உற்பத்தி மற்றும் விற்பனைச் சங்கம் லிட். Z-322 தமிழ்நாடு அரசு கைத்தறி மற்றும் ஜவுளித்துறையின் கீழ் செயல்படும் ஒரு கூட்டுறவு நிறுவனம் ஆகும்.
1955ஆம் ஆண்டு 100 கைத்தறி நெசவாளர்களுடன் ஆரம்பிக்கப்பட்ட இச்சங்கத்தில் தற்போது 1825 உறுப்பினர்கள் உள்ளனர். இவர்களில் பெண்கள் சம எண்ணிக்கையில் உள்ளனர் என்பது குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது.
ஆரம்பம் முதல் இன்று வரை இச்சங்கம் லாபகரமாக இயங்கிவருகிறது. நடந்து முடிந்த 2021-2022ஆம் நிதி ஆண்டில் 56.35 கோடி மதிப்பிற்கு விற்பனை நிகழ்த்தி விற்பனையில் புதிய சாதனை நிகழ்த்தியுள்ளது திகோசில்க்ஸ்.
இச்சங்கத்தின் மேலாண்மை இயக்குநராக தமிழ்நாடு அரசின் கைத்தறி மற்றும் தொழில்துறையின் இணை இயக்குநர் திரு.செல்வம் அவர்கள் பணியாற்றிக்கொண்டு இருக்கிறார். சங்கத்தின் சீரான வளர்ச்சி மற்றும் அதிகப்படியான லாபம் ஆகியவற்றை நோக்கங்களாகக் கொண்டு அதற்குத் தேவையான அடிப்படை மாற்றங்கள், துறை ஆணையரின் வழிகாட்டுதல்களின்படி, அவரால் தற்போது மேற்கொள்ளப்பட்டு வருகின்றன.
